President of the Republic of Serbia Aleksandar Vučić resigned from his post this evening, stating that he wishes to participate in the upcoming parliamentary elections as an ordinary citizen.

After addressing the public at the Presidency of Serbia, Vučić signed his letter of resignation and announced that he would hand over his duties tomorrow morning to Speaker of the National Assembly of Serbia Ana Brnabić, who will serve as Acting President.
Expressing gratitude to the citizens who had twice placed their trust in him, he emphasised that he had served faithfully, honourably and honestly in his role.
According to him, whoever wins the citizens’ confidence in the upcoming snap parliamentary elections on 25 October will have to maintain peace and stability while upholding and protecting national interests.
Presidential elections, he explained, must be held by the end of December.
