The Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Water Management announced that on 2-3 May, based on the order of Minister Professor Dragan Glamočić, PhD, extraordinary inspections were carried out at farmer’s markets and marketplaces throughout Serbia where food of animal origin is sold.

With the aim of protecting public health, Glamočić expressed a clear intention to prevent the potential transmission of the highly contagious foot-and-mouth disease through food, as well as to suppress the trade in food that has been illegally imported without appropriate oversight.
During the two-day operation, the Veterinary Administration’s inspection services ordered the recall and safe destruction of a total of 942 kilogrammes of meat products, 833 kilogrammes of dairy products, 295 kilogrammes of animal feed and 57 kilogrammes of fish and fish products.
All of these products lacked the required documentation, did not carry labels in Serbian, and were, in most cases, found to have originated from unregistered facilities in Hungary.
