Lalovic said that in 2005 inspection found some 29,000 people working illegally, which is a monthly loss of nearly 143 million dinars in social contributions for those people.
The number of people working on the illegal market is higher though, Lalovic said noting that it is realistic to expect that there are some 300,000 of them, which causes losses to the state in the amount of around €200 million.
The Minister said that actions have been taken to tackle this but noted that in 2005 only 12% of the cases were processed in court.
Lalovic recalled that the unemployment rate is around 19% and added that the aim is to decrease it to 10% by 2010.
He stressed that the Serbian government is conducting numerous projects within the unemployment reduction strategy, including a programme to support employment financed by the EU and carried out by the European Agency for Reconstruction (EAR) in cooperation with the Ministry of Labour and the National Employment Service.
Head of EAR Mission to Serbia Daniel Giuglaris said that the support programme covers three municipalities: Belgrade, Bor and Pirot.
According to him, the EAR provided nearly €1 million for realisation of this programme and the target groups are young people searching for a job for the first time, those who have been unemployed for a long time, people who are at risk of being dismissed, and to surplus labour.
