Lalovic told a press conference that the 322.95 million dinar project will help to provide for 200 families of war invalids, adding that problems of this group of citizens will be solved for the first time in 20 years.
He said the construction will be funded by the Japanese government's donation, which has helped set up the fund through which housing issues of war invalids and their families will be solved in future. Namely, these flats will be let out at market prices and in line with the law, occupants will also have the right to buy the flats as well.
Assistant Minister of Labour, Employment and Social Policy Bozidar Simatkovic specified that the deadline for the completion of works is January 1, 2007.
Local self-governments have provided around 30% of funds for the project which will be used to cover the costs of construction land and infrastructure equipping, said Simatkovic.
He said that 50 flats are to be built in Belgrade, 24 in Nis and Novi Sad each, 16 in Kikinda and Kragujevac each, 15 in Krusevac, 14 in Indjija, 12 in Pancevo, 11 in Smederevo and Loznica each and 10 in Leskovac.
The flats will measure between 20 and 50 square metres, and the total surface of flats will be 9,785 square metres.
The tender procedure for the contractor has already been completed for flats in Kikinda, Indjija and Novi Sad, whereas for other towns it is underway and is expected to be concluded by month's end, said Simatkovic.
According to Simatkovic, the right to participate in the tender for the allocation of flats cannot be granted to former and present members of the Army and police forces because their housing issues are resolved through other funds.
A five-member committee will decide on the allocation of flats. In case there are any objections, the Serbian government's housing committee will be in charge.
