Speaking at an expert conference dedicated to opening centres for preventive health services at 25 regional health centres in Serbia, Milosvaljevic explained that these centres are based on a completely new organisational concept in providing services, interventions and health promotion activities.
He pointed out that the centres have been formed as special organizational wholes, located within health centres, in order to improve and to give an incentive for preventive work regarding health risks and the appearance of disease, above all, cardiovascular, cerebrovascular, malignant diseases and diabetes.
Each centre is made up of four units, and four out of 25 centres will be in Belgrade, in the municipalities of Palilula, New Belgrade, Vozdovac and Zemun, the Minister stated.
According to Milosavljevic, the basic mission of the centre is to have an all encompassing integrative approach, and they will gather all those who implement preventive activities in health centres directed towards the adult population, with the aim to coordinate work, cooperation and support.
Health promotion and disease prevention are the basic principles for reducing the bulk of non-infectious diseases, said the Minister, and added that it is important to keep up with changes and progress in providing health care, in which putting emphasis on disease prevention is common in all European countries.
