Jocic told a press conference that police training reform is significant in the overall reform process of the Serbian Ministry of Interior.
He recalled that four legal groups in charge of police training reform were appointed a year ago, and that a police training strategy was adopted late last year.
According to him, the realisation of this project worked out by the OSCE Mission to Serbia-Montenegro, the Norwegian government and the International Management Group, should secure the continuation of reforms in the education of future law enforcement officers.
"We must adjust the structure of the Secondary School for Policemen in Sremska Kamenica to the new model of training so that the police could be educated and trained in a new way," Jocic said and added that the project of reconstruction was done very well.
Head of the OSCE Mission Hans Ola Urstad said that the efforts of Serbian Ministry of Interior aimed at the police reform is a crucial step in the implementation of reforms in the Serbian police and announced that the OSCE will continue to offer assistance to the Interior Ministry in that field.
According to him, basic police training is of crucial importance for the development of community oriented police service, in line with human rights standards and working principles of modern police services.
Norwegian Ambassador to Serbia-Montenegro Haakon Blankenborg said that this project covers all segments of the school's reconstruction, stressing that its realisation is connected with European integration processes.
The Serbian government is committed to closer European cooperation, Blankenborg said and highlighted that one of the most important sectors in that cooperation is law enforcement and respect of law because the quality of standards in that sector is the reflection of the quality and legitimacy of Serbia as a state.
