Such centres already exist in Novi Sad, Belgrade and Nis, and now the judiciary in Kragujevac will also be able to enter the network of higher instance courts.
Stojkovic said that many things remain to be done, but that in a relatively short period Serbia will get a modern, high-quality and effective judiciary. He said that corruption in the judiciary still exists, but that it is of individual and not systemic occurrence as in other spheres, and expressed his readiness to combat individual cases of corruption.
He said that a number of old, unresolved cases, which have always been a cause of discontent with citizens, have been considerably reduced, as have the number of overdue rulings.
At a press conference held in the Kragujevac District Court, Stojkovic said that efficiency of courts have greatly improved and specified that inefficiency of regular courts have been reduced by around 20% and trade courts by almost 50%.
The Minister said that the new IT centre in the Kragujevac District Court will considerably facilitate the work of courts and help reduce the time needed for non-judicial matters, which were encumbering both courts and clients.
During his stay in Kragujevac, Stojkovic discussed reforms in the judiciary with judges from municipal and district courts in central Serbia. He also talked with Mayor of Kragujevac Veroljub Stevanovic about providing assistance to local self-governments regarding preparations for the beginning of work of the Court of Appeal, planned for January 1, 2007.
The Kragujevac Court of Appeal will be situated in the building of the Health Protection Institute, in the vicinity of the Municipal and Districts Courts.
