Serbia requests that international law be respected

President of the Republic of Serbia Aleksandar Vucic said tonight that the Serbian government has decided that, in accordance with UN Security Council Resolution 1244, Belgrade should send its request to KFOR for the return of the Serbian army and police to Kosovo and Metohija, in the number from several hundred to 1,000 members.

Vucic said in a statement to the Radio and Television of Serbia (RTS) that a decision was made at the government session that tonight in electronic form, and tomorrow morning at the administrative crossing, the Chief of the General Staff should deliver to the KFOR commander our request that, in accordance with Resolution 1244, a certain number of military and police personnel return to the territory of Kosovo and Metohija.

He stated that the decision was made unanimously and that we only ask for international law to be respected and nothing more.

That would be important at this moment for the sake of protection of Serb population and control of the administrative crossings, especially at Jarinje and Brnjak, which would dramatically reduce tension. That would be a good decision, the President assessed and added that based on everything that we have heard, we are almost absolutely sure though that this will not be accepted.
