The Serbian parliament adopted today the Law on changes to the Law on Referendum and People’s Initiative. All 193 MPs who were present at the session voted in favour of the law.
The law shall come into force within less than eight days from the day of its publishing in the Official Gazette of the Republic of Serbia, by a special decision of the MPs.
The law changes several articles of the recently adopted Law on Referendum and People’s Initiative.
Firstly, the fees for signature verification are abolished, secondly it will not be possible to call a referendum on the same question in less than four years, and during these four years the parliament will not be able to make a decision different from the one confirmed at the referendum.
Furthermore, representatives of authorised proposers can be part of the organ that conducts the referendum.
