Minister of European Integration Jadranka Joksimovic received today on behalf of the Serbian government a donation from the Republic of Poland consisting of 200,000 doses of the Moderna COVID-19 vaccine.
This is the first time that the Moderna vaccine arrived in Serbia and now Serbian citizens will be able to choose among five different COVID-19 vaccines.
The handover of vaccines at the Torlak Institute of Virology, Vaccines and Sera in Belgrade was also attended by State Secretary of the Ministry of Health Mirsad Djerlek, Deputy Speaker of the Serbian parliament Vladimir Orlic, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Poland Szymon Szynkowski vel Sęk and Deputy Speaker of the Polish parliament Małgorzata Gosiewska.
On this occasion, Joksimovic pointed out that sincere friendship is the strongest feature of the relations between the two nations, and today's event confirms that, stating that the value of the donation is €4 million.
This is a bilateral donation and I am glad that the vaccine arrived through a donation from Poland, the Minister said and recalled Serbia's success in the fight against the pandemic, when at the beginning of this year it was among the first countries in Europe to procure the COVID-19 vaccine.
However, we are now below the European average in the rate of vaccination and that is the responsibility of every citizen of Serbia, she underlined.
Szynkowski vel Sęk stated that support and solidarity are the most important in the fight against the pandemic, noting that in Poland the word solidarity has a special meaning when it comes to Serbia and the Serbian people, primarily because of the common history of the two nations.
Gosiewska recalled that during her last visit to Serbia, she promised to open a group of Serbian-Polish friendship and she fulfilled that promise.
Poland shows solidarity when it comes to the fight against coronavirus, but it also provides support to Serbia on its path to European integration, she underlined and expressed confidence that together we can contribute a lot to Europe.
