Dejan Krnjajic
Speaking at a press conference, Krnjajic said that the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Water Management has directed a proposal, which stipulates that each expert team for monitoring and carrying out preventive measures, both on the Republic and the local level, should include one expert from the army as well; considering that the army has the necessary mechanisation, equipment, chemicals and other means required in case bird-flu appears in Serbia.
He said that rigorous preventive measures against bird-flu have been taken in Serbia and that they are above European standards. He reassured the public that they will be informed immediately of any news of the disease, even a single discovery of a case of bird-flu is made.
According to Krnjajic, more than 200 teams consisting of experts take part in the daily action of monitoring the arrival of migratory birds, observing the condition of domestic poultry and forwarding that information on to the Republic centre, and yesterday veterinarian staff examined 50 poultry farms.
Krnjajic said that all the measures taken by state bodies for the prevention of bird-flu should be taken seriously, adding that in case of failure to comply to the order of the ban on keeping poultry and pigs in open space, owners will first be issued a warning, followed by a fine of 5,000 to 50,000 dinars.
Representative of “Agroziva” of Pancevo, Milos Milojevic said that one of the largest domestic poultry farms is absolutely safe at the moment, adding that all of its 2,500 employees will soon be administered vaccines against common influenza at the company’s expense.
