Quality of Sputnik V vaccine manufactured at Torlak confirmed

Belgrade/Moscow, 19 May 2021

The Office of the Minister without portfolio in charge of innovations and technological development announced today that the Russian Gamaleya Institute of Epidemiology and Microbiology confirmed the quality of the vaccine produced in the Torlak Institute in Belgrade and approved the production of Sputnik V vaccine against coronavirus.

Serbia will thus become the first country in Europe to produce vaccine Sputnik V, it was announced at the meeting held today in Moscow by Minister without portfolio in charge of innovation and technological development and President of the Joint Committee for Cooperation with Russia Nenad Popovic and Director of the Gamaleya Institute Alexander Gintsburg.

The Gamaleya Institute has confirmed that the vaccines produced in Torlak meet the prescribed quality standards. Today, we received that confirmation from our Russian partners and we received approval to move on with production, said Popovic.

The Minister pointed out that this is great news for Serbia because our country will again become a world-renowned producer of vaccines, and today it is as if you have the most powerful weapon with which you protect the lives of your citizens.

He pointed out that a significant amount of the substance for the production of both components of the Sputnik V vaccine is expected to arrive in Serbia from Russia in next two weeks.

Gintsburg expressed satisfaction with the approval of the validation series of vaccines produced in Torlak, pointing out that this Serbian institute is a renowned scientific research institution with a hundred-year-old tradition that has excellent scientists and experts.
