President of the Republic of Serbia Aleksandar Vucic and Prime Minister Ana Brnabic attended last night's reception marking 9 May – Europe Day, organised by Head of the European Union Delegation to Serbia Sam Fabrizi.
In the Assembly of the City of Belgrade, congratulating everyone in Serbia and the EU on Europe Day, Vucic reminded that 9 May, the day when the great victory of freedom is celebrated, was won with huge sacrifices.
Recalling Robert Schuman's visionary idea that peace will be preserved, the President said that this faith, although it does not always seem so, is also present in Serbia, as well as the hope that our concrete achievements, on the long path to EU membership, will be adequately valued.
We hope that Serbia, with your help, support and criticism, will become a country that you will be happy to see in the European Union of Nations. I believe that with our support, help and criticism, we will also contribute to the EU becoming an even better place to live, the President said.
According to him, full membership in the EU, with a compromise solution to the issue of Kosovo and Metohija, is a way to achieve the goal and make Serbia orderly and successful, which would mean that we are on a good, European path.
He told Fabrizi that the pandemic did not shift the focus of the EU from the region of the Western Balkans, as well as that the EU stands firmly on the fact that the future of Serbia is in the EU.
