Opening of shopping malls, return to schools possible

Member of the COVID-19 Crisis Response Team Branislav Tiodorovic stated that the situation with coronavirus in Serbia is still an emergency health situation, but that there are improvements, which could lead to opening shopping malls on 12 April and children returning to classrooms on 19 April.

After today's session of the team, Tiodorovic said that if the current pace of vaccination continues, herd immunity could be reached in a month and a half.

According to him, a mild tendency of drop in the number of new cases of coronavirus is noticeable, and the number of hospital discharges is slowly growing against the number of hospital admissions, and the number of first medical examinations at covid centres is decreasing.

Covid hospitals are still full and under great pressure, but if the dynamics from the last two to three days persists, which we expect, it is possible to consider relaxation of certain measures, he explained.

He pointed out that the emphasis is still on the adherence with the epidemiological measures - wearing of masks, physical distancing and disinfection.

Tiodorovic noted that the vaccination process has been going great over the past two to three days, and that he expects this trend to continue and added that the response of citizens to vaccination is extremely good.
