Director of the Clinic for Infectious and Tropical Diseases and member of the COVID-19 crisis response team Goran Stevanovic warned today that the epidemiological situation in our country is on the border that the health system can endure.
After the meeting of the director of COVID hospitals with Minister of Health Zlatibor Loncar, Stevanovic said that we have secured places for the next 24 hours, after which new capacities must be opened, because the influx of patients has not decreased for days.
The number of patients in intensive care is constantly growing, he emphasised and pointed out that there is a large number of patients are young patients, with more severe clinical pictures, who come after seven or eight days of treatment at home.
He conveyed that the conclusion of the meeting was to request for the vaccine to be mandatory for healthcare workers, which would first protect healthcare workers, increase the level of protection of patients treated with COVID-19 and those treated for other diseases, and would we give impetus to further vaccination of the population.
Stevanovic said that we are currently on the verge of filling the capacity of intensive care, which speaks enough about how difficult the situation is.
