Production of Russian vaccine in Serbia to start by 20 May

Minister without portfolio in charge of innovation and technological development and co-chair of the Intergovernmental Committee for Cooperation with the Russian Federation Nenad Popovic met today in Moscow with Russian Minister of Industry and Trade Denis Manturov.

It was pointed out at the meeting that the production of the Russian vaccine Sputnik V at the Torlak Institute in Belgrade will start by 20 May this year, and Serbia will thus become the first country in Europe where the vaccine will be produced.

The interlocutors confirmed the Roadmap proposed by experts from the Russian Ministry of Industry and Trade, the Russian Direct Investment Fund, the Gamaleya Institute and the pharmaceutical company Generium.

Popovic explained that the first phase of the production of the Russian vaccine in Serbia includes the transport of the substance, filling of the bottles in accordance with the highest technological standards, packaging and distribution of vaccines in our country and the region.

After the establishment of the first phase of production, we will start preparing a feasibility study on production in the so-called full cycle, which includes the production of the substance in Serbia, which will require the purchase of complex technological equipment and expansion of the production capacity of the Torlak Institute, he said and expressed his belief that the full-cycle production may begin by the end of this year.
