Prime Minister Ana Brnabic voiced hope today that the stricter measures introduced for this weekend will give results and that they will not have to be further tightened due to the situation with the coronavirus.
Brnabic, who visited a plant for the collection and sale of honey "Nas Med" in Raca, when asked by journalists whether the measures would be further tightened, said that she hopes that everyone will understand the situation. Only once people see that the numbers are growing, everyone becomes extremely disciplined and then we manage to reduce numbers without very radical measures, the Prime Minister said.
She noted that we have the least radical measures in the whole of Europe and that we have managed to find the appropriate balance until now, but that the most important thing for that is individual responsibility.
Brnabic stated that Serbia, with a consignment of 100,000 Sputnik V vaccines that will arrive in our country today, will exceed the number of two million purchased vaccines.
Tomorrow we will get an additional 58,500 Pfizer vaccines, and on 5 March
500,000 more Sinopharm vaccines.
The Prime Minister pointed out that Serbia is at the very top of the countries in terms of vaccination, but that additional individual effort is needed to defeat the coronavirus.
We need to give vaccinated people a chance to make antibodies and for all people who want to be vaccinated to do so. In the end, if the number of patients grows, our entire vaccination process will be compromised, because you cannot vaccinate those people or they cannot receive the revaccination quickly enough. It is really important for all of us to be disciplined for the last time and to give the final blow to the coronavirus, Brnabic said.
The Prime Minister pointed to the difficult situation in COVID hospitals, but also that efforts are still being made to prevent some other hospitals from returning to the COVID regime.
That is why we decided to make a break this weekend, for everything to work until 2 pm, all inspections are on the ground. We are closing a large number of corona parties. I really cannot understand such irresponsibility towards the health of one's fellow citizens, Brnabic underlined.
She said that this is not fair to our health workers either, who work 24 hours a week and cannot see their children, nor can they use their holidays.
Speaking about the idea of introducing COVID passports in Europe, the Prime Minister said that it is contrary to all European values of freedom of movement and the right to free choice, but that our country, if that happens, will be ready because we already have an information system that allows it.
Brnabic stated that she absolutely believes that vaccination is very important, but that people must have a right to choose.
I think that this discriminates against people who cannot get vaccinated for medical or some other reasons. I don't understand how those people will travel. I didn't expect such a decision from the EU and I hope it is not final, however, if it is, we are ready for something like that from day one – there is no problem for our citizens because we are among the countries with the greatest number of those vaccinated, the Prime Minister stated.
