Member of the COVID-19 Crisis Response Team epidemiologist Predrag Kon stated today, after a session of the team, that all epidemiological measures remain in force and that it is still too early to speak about their relaxation.
Kon said in a statement to the press that the evaluation of the epidemiological situation is showing that there is a high level of stabilisation, but that a mild increase in new cases of coronavirus is also noted, which can be related to return of tourists from ski centres, but also to the presence of the British strain of the virus, which has been confirmed on several occasions.
He said that the crisis response team recognised the upcoming holidays as an additional risk, especially in the situation where we still have not rounded up the vaccination with two doses and underlined that the protection against the virus is secured only when at least ten days after the second dose have passed.
Kon assessed that the dynamic of the vaccination is good and added that the goal is to reach the figure of 80,000 vaccinations per day in order to achieve herd immunity as soon as possible.
Revaccination is also starting along with vaccination with the first dose. We have received 8,000 more doses of the Pfizer vaccine, the first contingent of Sputnik V, and we are also expecting Sinopharm’s vaccine and then we will have larger quantities of shots, which will in turn increase the number of calls for the first dose, he said and added that the goal is to vaccinate up to three million people.
