Prime Minister Ana Brnabic stated that 438,000 people have been vaccinated in our country to date and underlined that Serbia is absolutely the first in the region and the second in Europe in terms of the vaccination rate.
In a live appearance on the morning programme on Pink Television, Brnabic confirmed that there will be enough doses for revaccination because with each contingent of vaccines that arrives, one half is immediately put aside in order to have enough doses for revaccination.
Serbia is the second in Europe, right behind Great Britain in terms of vaccination rate, but Great Britain, due to huge problems with coronavirus and a large number of infected people, decided to revaccinate people after 12, and not after three weeks, which means that they practically give only one dose, which is not the case here in Serbia, the Prime Minister pointed out.
That would be as if we gave the 1,170,000 doses that we have to everyone, but only one dose.
Then we would have more than one million people vaccinated, but then we could only hope and wait that the vaccines for the second dose arrive.
We have a different strategy, as we always set aside half of the received shipment for the second dose, the Prime Minister reiterated and said that no one should worry about revaccination.
Realistically speaking, we are the first in Europe because we have already provided a revaccination for all vaccinated people, she pointed out and confirmed that a certain amount of the Pfizer vaccine will arrive tomorrow.
In the region, Serbia is absolutely the first in terms of vaccination, behind us are Slovenia, Romania and other countries, Brnabic said and specified that in our country the leader in terms of vaccination is Raska, then Kursumlija, while Belgrade is in the 21st place among local governments.
The Prime Minister announced that a new procurement contract will be signed at the beginning of the week, with which the total number of the vaccines Serbia has provided will amount to 11 million and recalled that Serbia has signed contracts on the procurement of 6.5 million doses of coronavirus vaccines.
Brnabic pointed out that Serbia, when it is most difficult, as now, behaves most seriously, gives help to all its partners, while the EU has shown that it does not respect the rule of law under pressure.
She assessed that incredible things can be seen now, how the EU reacts under great pressure, in a situation that is no more difficult than what other countries in the world are experiencing regarding the procurement of vaccines.
Everyone fights equally. We have also signed contracts for more than 6.5 million vaccines, and on Monday and Tuesday we will sign one more contract which will bring the total number of purchased vaccines to 11 million, the Prime Minister reiterated, adding that in this situation the EU, which promotes the rule of law, discloses a confidential agreement with AstraZeneca in order to pressure them to deliver vaccines to EU Member States.
It is easy to be good when all is easy, but it is difficult to show solidarity in the most difficult moments, like today. Serbia shows a new face with its behaviour, it has demonstrated that it can be the best even in the most difficult moments, Brnabic emphasised.
She recalled that Serbia has the best economic results in the whole of Europe, which are yet to be discussed when Eurostat comes out with its statistics.
We are by far the best in Europe and that is no coincidence. Serbia stands out as an extremely strong, serious country, which in the most difficult circumstances can provide its citizens with vaccines, medicines, build two hospitals, said Brnabic and emphasised that our position of the second country in Europe in terms of vaccination rate cannot be compromised, but it can only get better.
Sending an inspection service to AstraZeneca and closing borders of the EU does not help in this situation, Brnabic repeated, but also stated that she knows how difficult it is for her the uncertainty about vaccines, so she can guess how they feel in Brussels.
According to her, this also shows how our most serious foreign policy that we have conducted, which is to have excellent relations with the EU, the United States, China, Russia, India, which are the countries that manufacture vaccines today, yielded great results.
It is good that Serbia has not viewed vaccines as a big foreign policy question, but rather as a question of protection of its citizens, Brnabic underscored.
We were the first ones to sign a contract with Pfizer, but also with Sinopharm. Sinopharm's vaccine is surely among the best, if not the best. Excluding such a partner just because it is Chinese is not good, the Prime Minister of Serbia concluded.
