Very good start of immunisation in Serbia

Member of the COVID-19 Crisis Response Team, epidemiologist Branislav Tiodorovic said today at a regular coronavirus press briefing that vaccination in our country has started well and underlined that it is necessary to vaccinate as many people as possible in the shortest time possible.

Tiodorovic pointed out that no other country has so many vaccines per capita as Serbia, and expressed his hope that in the next two to three months, with vaccination and natural immunity that has been created, herd immunity could be achieved.

He said that the COVID-19 Crisis Response Team decided at its session today to keep all existing measures in place and warned that the current improvement of the epidemiological situation should not deceive us into believing that we have the situation under control.

We are far from that. It is important to be aware that we must keep the current epidemiological measures in place and to inoculate as many people as possible, Tiodorovic said.

Immunologist and member of the COVID-19 Crisis Response Team Srdja Jankovic pointed out that allergy to penicillin is not an obstacle for citizens to be vaccinated with any of the three types of vaccines against coronavirus available in Serbia, because penicillin antibiotics are not used in their production.

Jankovic explained that an absolute contraindication for vaccination with any of these three vaccines is a proven allergy to some component of the vaccine or a more serious allergic reaction to the first dose of the vaccine before receiving the second one.

Everything else is not an absolute contraindication, Jankovic stated.

He noted that an acute health disorder or the worsening of chronic conditions are temporary contraindications, and that everything else is not an absolute contraindication, but a precautionary measure.

Asked who must not receive the coronavirus vaccine, Jankovic said that these are the persons who are allergic to the vaccine itself or a component of the vaccine, as well as those with severe allergies, such as anaphylactic shock or the skin disease urticaria.
