Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic underlined that today is a great day for our country because the second big COVID hospital is opened in Krusevac, after only four months of construction.
Vucic said that the capacity of the new hospital, which will strengthen the health system in the fight against coronavirus, is 500 beds.
The Krusevac hospital is a monument of future and will speak about our achievements that we made in a short period of time, in a time that was difficult for our people, the President stated and added that the hospital will start admitting patients tomorrow morning.
Vucic said that he is proud of Serbia, of the people who worked on the hospital in Krusevac, where they made something grandiose in only four months, like in Batajnica.
Those people worked day and night and I will try to express gratitude to the workers. They did a very big job and now we have a hospital with 493 beds, of which 150 at the intensive care unit. That means 150 monitors and 150 ventilators, and these are ''high flow'' ventilators, he explained.
Vucic said that now everyone is looking for these ventilators and added that we have 56 “high flow” and 57 movable ventilators in storage, which will be delivered to hospitals in Serbia.
He said that more ''high flow'' ventilators will be procured for future needs.
We have made a fantastic thing here, by which we will cover not only Krusevac, but also the north part of the Raska District, an important part of the Morava District, south part of the Sumadija District, and also of the Toplica District until we finish the hospital in Prokuplje. We will also tend to a number of patients from Kosovo and Metohija. We do not ask if they are Serbs or Albanians, but those will mainly be patients from the north of the province, the President said.
According to him, few countries and people can build a hospital in only four months, and to do it so good and fast. What is left is to work on other facilities to provide additional logistics and also to finish the intensive and semi-intensive care units.
The equipment for the hospital cost €9.5 million.
In Batajnica there are already 530 patients. Imagine if we did not have all that space in the Batajnica hospital. Now we have space in Krusevac too and we will save many lives. When we started with the construction, some were suggesting that we are wasting money because coronavirus was over, but fortunately there were people who were thinking ahead. On this foggy day I am proud of our country and the wonderful people who did all this, the Serbian President underlined.
Vucic also talked briefly with the skilled tradesmen who worked on the construction of the hospital, with welders from Obrenovac, whom he thanked for their dexterous hands and effort invested.
The hospital in Krusevac spans 12,500 square metres at the location of the former military barracks "Rasina".
600 doctors, nurses and other medical staff have been employed in the hospital, which will be under the authority of the Clinical Centre of Nis.
The opening of the hospital was attended by Minister of Health Zlatibor Loncar.
