Serbia signs €85m loan agreement with EBRD for Nis-Merdare motorway

Minister of Finance Sinisa Mali signed today with Regional Director of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) for the Western Balkans Zsuzsanna Hargitai a loan agreement worth €85 million for the construction of the Nis-Merdare motorway, for the first section from Nis to Plocnik.

The second agreement on the implementation of the motorway construction project was signed with Hargitai by Minister of Construction, Transport and Infrastructure Tomislav Momirovic and Director of Koridori Srbije Aleksandar Antic.

After the signing of the agreements at the Serbian government Mali said that the beginning of works is expected in the middle of next year and pointed out that two important agreements were signed today, which represent a step forward in the realisation of this important infrastructure project.

Two agreements were signed today, one of which refers to the implementation of the project, and the other to the completion of the entire financing structure of that project, stated Mali.

Momirovic said that this motorway will position Serbia as a key traffic destination in Southeast Europe.

Hargitai stated that the Nis-Plocnik section is the first part of the motorway of peace, which is one of the key projects for creating a common regional market in the Western Balkans, but also one of the key projects of the EU Economic Investment Plan.
