State Secretary at the Ministry of Health Mirsad Djerlek stated that the Law on amendments to the Law on protection of population from infectious diseases, which was adopted last night by the Serbian parliament, came into force today.
Djerlek said at a press conference of the COVID-19 Crisis Response Team that this law prescribes a larger number of staff who will supervise the implementation of anti-coronavirus measures.
He underlined that the amendments should not be exclusively punitive, but rather a means of supervision of the previously adopted measures.
The State Secretary said that it is very important to implement measures prescribed by the COVID-19 Crisis Response Team, but also to achieve balance between protection of health of the population and preservation of economic activity.
Djerlek said that new anti-coronavirus measures are being discussed and will be announced in a day or two, in line with the situation on the ground, and underlined that we must learn to live with coronavirus until a vaccine arrives.
The measures that are being considered are introducing mandatory wearing of masks outdoors, especially in pedestrian zones that are full of people, and also limiting the work of night clubs and similar places that are a source of infection.
He underlined that it is no longer the case that coronavirus affects only the elderly because we now have persons between 20 and 40 years of age that have a serious clinical condition.
Djerlek said that at the moment hospitalised coronavirus patients are of all age groups, from a baby that was until recently at the Clinical Hospital Centre “Dr Dragisa Misovic” to elderly citizens.
