Deputy Director of the Institute for Public Health "Dr Milan Jovanovic Batut" Darija Kisic Tepavcevic said today that of the total number of new coronavirus cases registered over the past 24 hours, 40 percent are from Belgrade.
Speaking at a press conference of the COVID-19 Crisis Response Team, Kisic Tepavcevic specified that out of 265 new patients in Serbia, 106 of them are from Belgrade.
She pointed out that more than 80 percent of laboratory-confirmed cases are in the age group of up to 60.
Kisic Tepavcevic assessed that the situation is stable, but that we should be worried about the growing trend of new infections, and added that the most important parameter is the occupancy of our health capacities and the number of people who are on ventilatory support.
According to her, we will have to learn to live with this virus without any drastic measures, noting that the COVID-19 Crisis Response Team did not consider introducing a measure of ban on movement or quarantine, or switching to online classes.
She specified that there is a commission that regularly monitors the current epidemiological situation in primary and secondary schools and the decision is made depending not only on an absolute number of pupils and students that are positive to coronavirus, but also on whether the infection is spreading in the school environment.
So far, we have had sporadic infections in more than 95% of cases, with research showing that the infection occurred outside the school environment and in four situations the virus has spread within a class, she said.
Director of the Clinical Hospital Centre Bezanijska Kosa Marija Zdravkovic stated that there are currently 96 patients with coronavirus at that hospital, who are all in a stable condition.
