Prime Minister Ana Brnabic said today that in next two weeks, from the beginning of the new school year, no violation of epidemiological measures will be tolerated.
In a statement to Radio Television of Serbia (RTS), Brnabic pointed out that for the Serbian government and the COVID-19 Crisis Response Team, at this moment, when the pupils and students started going to school, the most important thing is to monitor the situation regarding the spread of coronavirus.
She said that every scenario has been worked out in detail and recalled that the Institute for Public Health of Serbia "Dr Milan Jovanovic Batut" formed a team that will monitor the situation in schools only and report to the COVID-19 Crisis Response Team on a daily basis.
In August, we worked on bringing the epidemiological situation under control before 1 September, the Prime Minister explained and pointed out that this was achieved, since only 41 newly infected people were discovered yesterday.
According to her, in the next two weeks, from the beginning of the school year, we must isolate all cases in order to see what effects the starting of school produces, hoping that the situation will remain favourable.
Serbia invests a lot of energy in balancing between a controlled epidemiological situation and an economy that continues to be active, she pointed out and underlined that we must continue to be active, although a lockdown would be the easiest solution.
Asked to comment on a recommendation that the children coming back from holidays from abroad remain in self-isolation for ten days, Brnabic underlined that a state of emergency has not been introduced in Serbia and that according to law, such a recommendation cannot be mandated, but can just remain that, a recommendation.
The Prime Minister wished the first-graders and their parents a happy 1 September and the school start.
