Prime Minister Ana Brnabic stated today that there is no need to move the beginning of the school year by two weeks, as requested by the Union of Education Workers of Serbia.
During a visit to the Faculty of Fine Arts in Belgrade, Brnabic told reporters that the COVID-19 crisis response team gave timely recommendations to schools for teaching and that everyone had enough time to prepare.
She estimated that it would be meaningless if they had given recommendations earlier because no one could have predicted the epidemiological situation, which is still being monitored.
According to her, it depends on the epidemiological situation how the situation will continue – if it gets better, we will allow larger classes, and if it gets worse, online classes will be conducted.
The Prime Minister mentioned that the Institute for Public Health "Milan Jovanovic Batut" created a special team that will only monitor the epidemiological situation in educational institutions.
Asked whether the government is considering providing schools with protective masks, she said the government would be there to provide all the support to keep everyone safe, recalling that computers were provided for all children who did not have them when schools were closed due to the epidemic.
