Prime Minister Ana Brnabic stated today at a press conference of the COVID-19 Crisis Response Team that it is evident that the number of new coronavirus cases in Serbia is decreasing.
Brnabic underlined that although 295 new cases of infection were confirmed over the past 24 hours, it is clear that the epidemic is getting weaker, which can be seen by the number of check-ups at COVID centres and by the number of patients that require hospitalisation.
She presented the data that 287 persons were admitted to hospital, whereas 390 were discharged.
Everything is coming under full control, the Prime Minister said and added that the further course of the epidemic depends on ourselves, on how we will behave and whether we will respect preventive measures.
As a society, we will enter the autumn much better prepared than we were until a few months ago, Brnabic pointed out and added that a tour of the existing 22 PCR laboratories for coronavirus throughout Serbia began today, as well as of nine locations for possible new laboratories.
She explained that these locations are not all confirmed, but that it should be seen whether it is possible to train people there and buy all the necessary equipment, adding that we want to be even better prepared for the autumn and winter wave of coronavirus.
According to her, another laboratory is needed in Belgrade, within the Belgrade Institute for Public Health and the Serbian Institute for Public Health “Dr Milan Jovanovic Batut”, and it is also planned to set up laboratories at the public health institutes in Sabac, Uzice, Krusevac, Zajecar and Vranje, as well as at the Medical Faculty in Kragujevac and in Kosovska Mitrovica.
This is the result of a plan we adopted as a Crisis Response Team within the preparations for the autumn and winter and the Working group for coordinating the work of microbiological laboratories formed by the government, and we have a total of 33 people who will visit 30 locations across Serbia in the next four days, the Prime Minister explained.
She added that on Monday, the Working group will analyse the collected data and recommend measures for raising the capacity of the existing laboratories and opening new COVID PCR laboratories, which is the key to the fight against coronavirus.
We really expect the situation to calm down, but it depends on all of us and on how much we adhere to preventive measures. I am very grateful to the citizens who have taken the situation seriously and with whom we are fighting against the pandemic, Brnabic pointed out.
Member of the Crisis Response Team Epidemiologist Predrag Kon assessed that the epidemiological situation in Serbia is slightly improving, that the number of newly discovered cases is decreasing and that this is visible both in the smaller number of hospitalisations and in the number of outpatient examinations, especially in Belgrade.
