Prime Minister Ana Brnabic and Chinese Ambassador to Serbia Chen Bo opened in Nis today a new laboratory for the coronavirus testing Fire Eye, with a daily capacity of 1,000 samples.
The opening of the laboratory was also attended by Minister of Health Zlatibor Loncar and Nis Mayor Darko Bulatovic. The Serbian government invested around €3.5 million in this laboratory and €500,000 was donated by company Zijin.
Brnabic underlined that the opening of this laboratory will enable a greater testing capacity, which will help us to exit this wave of the epidemic stronger and much more resilient and to get prepared better for the situation in the fall.
She recalled that this laboratory, in addition to the one in Belgrade, is the only of this kind in the region and that it was constructed in a record time, in just three months.
I am satisfied and proud because of that, Brnabic stated and expressed gratitude to the partners from China for their help and the donation of equipment.
The Prime Minister underlined that since the first case of coronavirus appeared in Serbia, the testing capacities have been increased 20 times over and that until now, 650,000 test have been made. She noted that in one day alone in July, more PCR tests were done than during the whole month of March.
We will not stop here, we will continue improving capacities as that is the key factor in the fight against such a virus, Brnabic said and expressed her conviction that we will exit this peak of the epidemic wave much stronger and more resilient than in May.
According to her, it is important that everyone be disciplined so that we could be better prepared for the fall.
We have a stable situation owing to an increased testing capacity, discipline and the efforts of health workers, the Prime Minister stated.
Chen Bo congratulated everyone on building a new laboratory in Nis in such a short time, and underlined that this is an example of how China and Serbia fight together against COVID-19.
The laboratory is a new result in the cooperation between China and Serbia in the field of health care and new technologies, she underlined and recalled that Chinese companies in Serbia take active part in the fight against the virus, thus fighting together with their Serbian friends for the economic recovery.
All of the necessary equipment has been brought to Nis and the training of the personnel completed. The Nis Fire Eye laboratory is the second of this kind in Serbia, the first one being Fire Eye at the Clinical Centre of Serbia in Belgrade.
