11,521 people tested in last 24 hours

Minister of Health Zlatibor Loncar announced today that in the last 24 hours, 11,521 people have been tested in last 24 hours for coronavirus, which is the largest number of tested patients since the outbreak of the epidemic.

At the press conference of the COVID-19 crisis response team at the Palace of Serbia, Loncar pointed out that he is proud of the health system that managed to test such a large number of people.

He emphasised that the percentage of those infected is slightly lower, when the number of those tested is taken into account, but he again appealed to the citizens to respect all the prescribed measures, so that we could continue to successfully fight the coronavirus.

The Minister assessed that today's results are nothing to panic about, and that the good news is that there are fewer deaths, adding that in the next 48 hours there will be no problems with accommodation capacities in COVID hospitals.

He explained that patients from Cacak, Kraljevo and Pozarevac, where it was noticed that the number of examinations and reports is increasing, were transferred to Belgrade as a precaution.

Director of the Institute for Public Health "Dr Milan Jovanović Batut" Verica Jovanovic explained that health institutions in Serbia are working on preparing a plan of preventive measures to prevent the spread of the virus in the fall, when a new wave is expected.

Considering that this is a novel virus and that we are witnessing a new peak, preventive measures are being developed and plans are being drawn up in institutions, including schools, faculties and other educational institutions, she said.
