Number of patients on ventilatory support increases

Prime Minister Ana Brnabic said today at a regular coronavirus press briefing that until 15.00 today 9,183 persons were tested, of whom 383 tested positive for coronavirus, bringing the total number of coronavirus cases in Serbia since the start of the epidemic to 19,717.

There are currently 177 patients on ventilatory support, while 13 persons died over the past 24 hours.

The Prime Minister underlined that the greatest increase in the number of cases is in Belgrade, while the situation is also unstable in Kraljevo and the number of cases is growing in Novi Sad too.

In contrast, the situation is improving in Sabac and Novi Pazar, which gives us a reason for certain optimism, the Prime Minister said and added that the increase in the number of cases is a consequences of the recent protests.

The situation in the capital has been more stable in the past few days, but yesterday and today there was an increase in the number of infected people, she warned and assessed that it is good that the protests did not last long, which is why the number of infected people is expected to fall soon.

According to her, what gives optimism is that the citizens are really disciplined and that they mostly respect the protection measures and the appeals of the COVID-19 Crisis Response Team.

The Prime Minister said that the government adopted new measures today to curb the spread of coronavirus, which will come into force tomorrow.

Local crisis response teams will monitor the implementation of these measures, competent inspection services or communal police in the cities where such police exist, but above all inspection services. However, the self-discipline of the citizens is the most important- to respect the measures and thus protect oneself and others, she pointed out.

Brnabic expressed the expectation that additional measures will give results in the coming days, because it is evident that we have all joined in the fight against coronavirus, and at the same time expressed gratitude to the citizens for respecting the measures.

The Prime Minister expressed confidence that this will be reflected in the numbers of newly infected people in the coming days, as well as that the pressure on the health care system will decrease.
