Prime Minister Ana Brnabic announced that today is the most difficult day since the beginning of the coronavirus epidemic in terms of the number of people on ventilators, which currently stands at 154.
At the press conference of the crisis response team, which will be held again every day at 15.00, Brnabic reminded that the most difficult day, according to the number of patients on ventilatory support, was 14 April, when that number was 146.
She specified that 6,915 people were tested in the last 24 hours in Serbia, of which 279 tested positive for the coronavirus, and expressed regret that as many as 12 people died since yesterday's briefing.
The Prime Minister reiterated the appeal to the citizens to respect all epidemiological measures and added that an additional 49 ventilators were deployed to the hospital in Serbia today.
The Prime Minister announced that from today, press conferences will be held daily, at which, above all, the profession will once again talk about daily trends related to coronavirus.
She expressed hope that it would again be the way to present daily updates about the virus.
The Prime Minister also announced that she would propose that the wearing of protective masks indoors be introduced as mandatory for the whole of Serbia, regardless of whether a situation of emergency has been declared in some place or not.
She asked the citizens not to gather because it is an attack on our health system and reiterated that all political differences can wait, and that now the fight against coronavirus should be taken most seriously and all preventive measures should be respected.
Brnabic also pointed out that the crisis response team will monitor the situation and consider whether it is necessary to introduce more restrictive measures.
According to her, the request of President of Serbia Aleksandar Vucic was to take more restrictive measures, considering that they gave a good result in March and April, and that would certainly be the case again.
Brnabic, however, emphasised that the crisis response team and the government, although they agreed with such an assessment, are still going to fight against the coronavirus with a common awareness and responsibility.
It is a complex process, which gives results more slowly than a ban on movement, and whether it is a smart decision or not, time will tell, said the Prime Minister.
She stated that the coronavirus surprised not only us, but the whole world with this blow and explosion of numbers during July, when the weather is warm, noting that it seems to her that the situation is much more complex now.
