Minister of Finance Sinisa Mali talked today with Ambassador of the Republic of France to Serbia Jean-Louis Falconi about the economic situation in the conditions of the coronavirus pandemic and French investments in Serbia.
Mali pointed out that the economic situation in Serbia is stable, and that our country is ready to face the global crisis, with low public debt, high foreign exchange reserves and a budget surplus.
He stated that this gave the government of Serbia the opportunity to come out with an economic support package of €5.1 billion, which is 11% of GDP, and which is rare in any country in the world.
The Minister of Finance also emphasised that Serbia opened its economy at the right time, as well as that no foreign investor gave up investing in Serbia.
Ambassador Falconi pointed out that French companies operating in Serbia praise the economic measures of the government of Serbia, and that they are very positive, and confirmed that no company has given up on its investment.
Mali and Falconi also talked about the project of building a subway in Belgrade, in which the French company "Egis" is participating.
A grant agreement was recently signed regarding the implementation and financing of the project, which will enable the preparation of a feasibility study.
Also, we are working on the financial construction, which, as the officials agreed, is a very important part of this project.
Mali and Falconi assessed that the project of building the Belgrade subway as an absolute priority in mutual relations, considering that Belgrade citizens have been waiting for the subway for decades, and that it is necessary due to further accelerated development and expansion of the city, the Ministry of Finance stated.
