Minister without portfolio in charge of innovation and technological development Nenad Popovic announced today that Serbian startup company SmartResearch and the Mihajlo Pupin Institute have developed the prototype of the first Serbian ventilator.
Popovic said in a statement to Tanjug news agency that this is a great victory for the Serbian engineers, adding that the technological solutions won would be used in the production of Serbian ventilators for the treatment of patients infected with coronavirus.
So far, he said, five prototype devices have been manufactured, and according to their verification, the production capacity of the Mihajlo Pupin Institute could be ten complete devices per day.
According to him, with the support of partners from the arms industry, it is possible to significantly increase production capacity.
This development phase has been completed within 30 days, as foreseen by the financing agreement between the Innovation Fund and SmartResearch, Popovic said, announcing that the first Serbian ventilator would be presented next week.
The Innovation Fund has granted RSD 53 million to fund 12 innovative projects aimed at combating the effects of the pandemic caused by the coronavirus.
