Deputy Director of the Public Health Institute “Dr Milan Jovanovic Batut” Darija Kisic Tepavcevic said that since the last report until 15.00 today 3,194 persons were tested, of whom 445 tested positive for coronavirus.
At a regular coronavirus press briefing which was held in Nis today, she specified that a total of 3,511 patients have been hospitalized to date, 120 are on ventilatory support, while a total number of persons tested is 29,472.
Four persons more died of coronavirus over the last 24 hours, three men and one woman.
The number of coronavirus fatalities in Serbia is 103, and the death rate currently stands at 1.9%, Kisic Tepavcevic added.
This rate has dropped against yesterday when it was over 2%, she said and added that a total number of coronavirus cases in Serbia is 5,318.
Kisic Tepavcevic said that a total number of cured citizens so far is 443, adding that 6,070 health workers have been tested to date, 593 of whom are positive for coronavirus and five have died.
She said that 382 health workers were hospitalized, noting that they are a group which is at high risk of infection. The number of infected health workers accounts for 10-15% of all confirmed cases, as is the case in other countries.
Epidemiologist Branislav Tiodorovic said the situation in Nis is under control and added that hospitals in southern Serbia are ready to take all citizens diagnosed with COVID-19 or with a suspected infection.
We are expanding the capacity of temporary hospitals so we have 700 more beds, and the COVID hospital in Leskovac, which has started to be filled, can take 220 patients.
