Deputy Director of the Public Health Institute “Dr Milan Jovanovic Batutˮ Darija Kisic Tepavcevic stated that since the last report until 15.00 today 2,440 persons were tested, of whom 411 tested positive for coronavirus.
At a regular press briefing at the Palace of Serbia, Kisic Tepavcevic said that a total of 3,006 patients have been hospitalised, 131 are on ventilatory support, while the total number of tests made to date is 23, 398.
She said that nine patients died, of whom seven were men and two women, and their average age is 69.
Coronavirus claimed a total of 94 lives in Serbia and the death rate at the moment is 2.1%, Kisic Tepavcevic added.
She stated that out of a total of 4, 936 health workers tested, 533 coronavirus cases have been confirmed, while 1, 062 health workers await the results of the test.
The largest number of hospitalized patients are at the Clinical Hospital Centre “Zemun” 340, of whom 25 are on ventilatory support, and at the Clinical Hospital Centre “Zvezdara” 324, of whom 13 are on respiratory support.
Regarding Easter holidays, she said that the position of experts is clear – any gatherings or behaviour that increase the possibility of infection is considered a high risk for public health.
There are no compromises on this matter. The expert medical opinion based on facts is perfectly clear, Kisic Tepavcevic stated.
She underlined that every week and every day are crucial until the moment the total number of new coronavirus cases is zero for a continued period of time.
Immunologist Srdjan Jankovic stated Serbia will soon start using blood plasma therapy in the treatment of COVID-19.
He explained that antibodies from blood plasma of a person that recovered from coronavirus can be used as an additional therapy with patients who still do not have enough of their own antibodies and are at risk of a severe clinical condition.
Epidemiologist Predrag Kon said that the number of coronavirus cases is increasing in Nis and the surrounding towns, whereas the situation in Vojvodina is improving.
