Minister of Health Zlatibor Loncar announced that 2,159 more people were tested in our country, of which 275 were positive, while three persons died in the last 24 hours.
Loncar said at a regular press conference at the Palace of Serbia that a total of 2,436 patients were hospitalised, with 145 people currently on the ventilator.
He said that to date, a total of 16,399 persons have been tested in the Republic of Serbia that meet the case definition criteria, adding that of the three deceased persons, two were female and one male, with an average age of 68.6.
The Minister stressed that the total number of deaths since the outbreak of the epidemic is 74.
In Serbia, 441 health workers are infected with coronavirus, of whom 258 are in hospitals with medium and severe clinical condition, while others were in temporary hospitals, Loncar said.
The Minister, referring to the homes for the elderly, stated that, as of today, 32 beneficiaries are positive and they are taken care for, as well as 13 employees in these institutions.
He pointed out that it was confirmed that two people died in the home for the elderly in Smederevo, but that neither of these cases are confirmed coronavirus cases.
We pay special attention to the homes for the elderly and do everything we can to prevent the virus from entering these institutions, said Loncar.
According to him, there are also 27 children in our country who are in good health and their monitoring continues.
Loncar announced that special hospitals in the spas will be used to accommodate patients with a light clinical picture, as their capacities correspond to what we need.
Epidemiologist Predrag Kon said that those with coronavirus in Serbia had on average between 15 and 20 contacts, who also need to be tested for the presence of the virus.
Kon announced that a representative sample would be tested over the summer to determine what the population's immunity is, noting that when everything returns to normal, the most vulnerable groups will be the elderly and children.
According to him, the gradual loosening of restrictive measures requires at least two weeks of clear reduction in the number of new infections.
We are in the most significant week in terms of infections and this is the maximum, he reiterated, and said that he talked with the President of the Republic immediately before the conference and added that measures might be relaxed at the end of April.
