Gratitude to United States on announced assistance in medical supplies

First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Ivica Dacic spoke today on the phone with US Ambassador to Serbia Anthony Godfrey about the coronavirus pandemic and the measures which the two countries are taking to combat COVID-19.

Dacic conveyed Serbia's appreciation for the announced US assistance, especially given that America is currently one of the countries most affected by the coronavirus.

He recalled that the Serbian government sent today an Air Serbia plane to the United States that will take 170 American citizens there, and on its way back the plane will bring Serbian students and pupils who were caught in the pandemic in that country.

Ambassador Godfrey said that the delivery of 6,000 coronavirus test kits is expected in the coming days, which the US will send to Serbia.

He expressed gratitude to Serbia for its assistance in evacuating US citizens, recalling that Serbia had already transported 64 US citizens by a humanitarian flight on 26 March, and that US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo had sent a letter to President Aleksandar Vucic in which he expressed his gratitude on this gesture.

The interlocutors exchanged views on the most important topics in the framework of bilateral and multilateral cooperation, as well as on the ways of its further improvement.

Dacic expressed condolences to Godfrey on the large number of lives that the coronavirus claimed in the United States, including that of the ambassador's father.
