Deputy Director of the Public Health Institute of Serbia "Dr Milan Jovanovic Batut" Darija Kisic Tepavcevic said that a total number of COVID-19 cases registered in Serbia is 2,666.
At a regular press conference at the Palace of Serbia, Kisic Tepavcevic specified that since the last report, samples of 1,135 people were tested, 219 of which were positive. A total number of persons tested in Serbia to date is 10, 761.
She stated that 1,726 patients are hospitalised, while a total of 112 patients are on ventilatory support.
In the last 24 hours, four male patients died, bringing a total of coronavirus fatalities in Serbia to 65, said Kisic Tepavcevic.
She pointed out that although the data on the coronavirus in Serbia are promising, our country is not yet close to abolishing the restrictive measures which have yielded results and, above all, the lives of our elderly citizens have been saved.
According to her, the return to normal lives of groups of people who have been in self-isolation must be gradual and in conditions where collective immunity strengthens and the virus weakens.
Epidemiologist Predrag Kon warned that abolishing the restrictive measures is out of question in the stage when the coronavirus epidemic is at its peak in Serbia, noting that the peak will last for another eight to 10 days, i.e. that the sixth week from the onset of the virus needs to pass.
Kon said that in his opinion an absolute ban on contacts is needed, not just a ban on movement and confirmed that the Crisis Response Team supported at today's session the introduction of a curfew from Friday at 17.00 to Monday at 05.00.
