Director of the Infectious Diseases Clinic in Belgrade Goran Stevanovic stated that 148 more cases of coronavirus have been recorded since yesterday until 15.00 today, bringing a total number of confirmed COVID-19 cases to 1,624.
Speaking at a regular press conference at the Palace of Serbia, Stevanovic said that since the last report, 645 persons have been tested, of whom 148 tested positive for coronavirus.
A total of 1, 046 patients are hospitalized, 69 of whom are at the Belgrade Fairgrounds. A total of 89 patients are on ventilatory support.
A total of 6, 401 have been tested to date.
In the last 24 hours, five more male patients died, bringing a total number of coronavirus deaths in Serbia to 44. The average age of the patients that died is 63.2 and all of them had pre-existing conditions that contributed to the fatal outcome, Stevanovic said.
He said that a new outbreak has emerged in Novi Pazar, which is why a number of medical ventilators and a team of doctors have been sent to that city. A full equipping of the local hospital is underway.
According to Stevanovic, staff and patients will be transferred at any time, wherever needed, depending on what is best for the patients.
Director of the Public Health Institute "Dr Milan Jovanovic Batut" Verica Jovanovic said that the epidemiological situation in nursing homes is under control.
The care for the elderly in nursing homes is of great importance and is, for the most part, health care. We are involved in monitoring the epidemiological situation, and the measures we recommend have been put in place there. All that needed to be done has been done, Jovanovic underlined.
Provincial Health Secretary of AP Vojvodina Zoran Gojkovic said that there are no confirmed coronavirus cases among migrants located in the territory of Serbia, pointing out that there are doctors in the facilities where they are located, and that those with symptoms are tested.
According to him, since the migrant camp is secured and there are no uncontrolled trips, the likelihood of transmission of the infection is low.
Answering questions from journalists, Director of the Infectious Diseases Clinic Goran Stevanovic said that there are coronaviruses patients in Serbia that have been cured, but that they are still in small numbers since the curing takes a lot of time and added that all those cured had a mild clinical condition.
He explained that the patients with a mild clinical condition need from seven to 14 days to get cured, moderate patients two to four weeks, while in severe cases the treatment lasts up to eight weeks.
