Deputy Director of the Public Health Institute " Dr Milan Jovanovic Batut" Darija Kisic Tepavcevic announced that a total of 528 COVID-19 cases have been registered in Serbia by 15.00 today, and one more death has been reported.
At a regular press conference at the Palace of Serbia, Kisic Tepavcevic stated that a total of 259 people were tested in the last 24 hours, of whom 71 tested positive for coronavirus and 48 were hospitalised.
The total number of deaths due to coronavirus is 8, and a total of 1,715 people had been tested so far.
Coronavirus has been registered in 35 cities in Serbia, with 219 cases in Belgrade, 45 in Valjevo, 41 in Cuprija, 40 in Nis, 14 in Krusevac and Kragujevac each and 11 in Cacak.
These are the data until the end of the day yesterday by topographic distribution, pointing out that in other cities there is a single-digit number of confirmed cases.
According to Kisic Tepavcevic, until today at 12 o'clock there have been 45 patients at ventilatory support, 11 of whom at the Infectious Diseases Clinic of the Clinical Centre of Serbia, three in the Clinical Centre of Nis, five in the Clinical Centre of Vojvodina, five at the Clinical Hospital Centre "Dr Dragisa Misovic", one person at the Clinic for Pulmonology of the Clinical Centre of Serbia and 11 at the Clinical Centre of Nis – the old building of the Surgical Ward.
Epidemiologist Predrag Kon recalled that we are entering the fourth week, i.e. the 22nd day of the epidemic, and if we compare Serbia with the situation in Italy during this period, we have about 10 times less intense viral activity and transmission.
Overall, we are in a situation where the two weeks that are ahead of us are expected to be the hardest so far, he warned, adding that the age of those infected in Belgrade shows that the measures put in place by the government have yielded the desired effect in the population over 65 years of age.
Kon also confirmed that the Belgrade Fairgrounds are ready and it is just a matter of time when the admission of patients will start, noting that this will be known today, after 16.30, when a meeting of the Crisis Response Team begins.
