First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Ivica Dacic spoke on the phone with Director-General of the World Health Organisation (WHO) Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus.
Dacic praised WHO's efforts to help all countries affected by the global pandemic of the Covid-19 virus, as well as to the organisation's assistance to Serbia, especially in the form of virus detection tests, which will be of great importance in preventing the growth of the number of people suffering from the disease in our country.
He briefed the WHO Director-General on the current situation and activities the government of Serbia is undertaking to protect its population.
Dacic expressed concern that an increase in the number of patients in the coming period could lead to a lack of necessary medical equipment, tests for detecting viruses and disinfectants, and appealed to Ghebreyesus to provide the necessary assistance.
Ghebreyesus promised that the WHO would respond positively to our country's demands and provide the necessary assistance in line with the resources currently available.
According to him, the world today needs solidarity more than ever because it is a problem that affects everyone and can only be overcome through joint action.
The officials agreed to remain in constant contact so that Serbia, as well as other affected countries, with the help and support of the World Health Organisation, can quickly overcome this virus.
Following the talks, the WHO Director General thanked Dacic for the call on his Twitter account and said that the WHO would support Serbia in the fight against coronavirus.
