Prime Minister urges citizens to respect emergency measures

Belgrade, 16 March 2020

Prime Minister Ana Brnabic called on citizens today to listen to the recommendations of the state and specialists regarding the fight against the coronavirus because otherwise the state will introduce more drastic measures, such as a total prohibition of the freedom of movement and curfew.

Brnabic said in a statement to Television Prva that today she has seen big crowds in traffic and on the streets in the capital city and concluded that citizens have not taken and listened seriously enough to the recommendations of the President of the country, the Prime Minister and specialists.

If such a situation persists, more drastic measures will have to be taken in the next two days, such as the additional involvement of members of the Ministry of the Interior and the Serbian Army.

The Prime Minister urged citizens to have self-discipline, in particular the elderly, and underlined that we must try to control the situation so that the number of those infected could be reduced to a minimum, that is, to the number our health system can take and process.

Brnabic stated that without solidarity the epidemic cannot be defeated.

At this moment we have the situation under control, which does not mean that it will stay so, the Prime Minister pointed out and added that it is customary that from the 15th day since the outbreak of the virus the number of those infected starts to grow drastically and that the hardest blow on the health system is yet expected.
