President of the Republic of Serbia Aleksandar Vucic said today, regarding the current situation with the coronavirus, that the citizens of Serbia do not have to worry about basic foodstuffs, stating that there is enough food for one year.
Speaking after the COVID-19 response team in charge of the economy, Vucic said that Serbia has a million tons of flour in reserves and that there are no problems with wheat, oil and sugar, but that the state will prevent the export of these products for at least 30 days.
According to him, under the decision of the Serbian government, everyone who produces disinfectants and toilet paper will not be able to export these products as of today.
Vucic said that if due to the current health crisis there are no liquid funds, the state would resort to money from the Development Fund, but also stressed that Serbia has enough foreign exchange reserves for its current needs.
The President also said that Serbia will require a commercial bank operating in the domestic market to allow a moratorium of 90 days for loans.
Vucic announced special talks with the Association of Hotel and Restaurateurs of Serbia (HORES) and other organisations that feel the direct economic consequences of coronavirus, and added that the state will help pay part of the salaries of their employees.
