"Dear citizens of Serbia, I have just signed the Decision on calling elections for the members of parliament. The elections are called for 26 April this year. I wish success to everyone and that the campaign be competitive and peaceful, in a democratic atmosphere. Of course there will be raised tones and passions, there have always been and will be, but what matters is that everything be democratic. The elections are an important act for out country because there people will decide how they want to live", the President said in his address to the public.
President Vucic said that the election campaign will last more than 50 days, which will make it one of the longest campaigns ever, so there will be enough time for everyone to present their programmes.
Today Serbian parliament Speaker Maja Gojkovic also called local elections for 26 April.
The Decision on calling elections for deputies of the city assemblies and municipal assemblies in Serbia does not apply to the municipalities where early elections have been held.
The regular provincial elections will also be held on 26 April, according to the Decision signed yesterday by Speaker of the Assembly of the Autonomous Province of Vojvodina Istvan Pastor.
