Serbia to receive more than €97m through IPA 2017

Brussels, 17 December 2018

Minister of European Integration Jadranka Joksimovic and European Commissioner for Neighbourhood Policy and Enlargement Negotiations Johannes Hahn signed today in Brussels a part of the Instrument for Pre-Accession Assistance for 2017 in the amount of over €97 million.

Joksimovic emphasised that these funds will be allocated for important development projects and sustainable development of Serbia, adding that the most significant part of this package worth €49.6 million is intended for financing the gas interconnector between Serbia and Bulgaria.

That is one of the most important projects that should support energy diversification in Serbia, stability of supply and strengthening of gas infrastructure, which is of great importance for our citizens, she said.

According to Joksimovic, the second part of the funds of over €28 million refers to projects in the field of environmental protection and will be directed to the management of wastewaters in Brus and Blace, for the wastewater purification system in Kraljevo, and for other projects, such as waste sorting for 19 municipalities in Serbia.

These are very important things that show citizens at the local level what the process of European integration means and why it is the best support to our development process, the Minister stated.
