Speaking at a press conference following the government session today, Kostunica said that the government has been officially informed that the tribunal’s prosecution will not appeal to the court’s decision on the temporary release.
Kostunica said that this decision promotes cooperation with the tribunal, the idea of two-way cooperation, and voluntary surrenders as the best method for the state, individuals, and their families. He also announced that the government will remain committed to cooperation with the tribunal, which means full cooperation to the last case.
Kostunica said that the European Commission’s positive decision on the Feasibility Study for Serbia-Montenegro will speed up the country’s integration into the European Union, strengthen the institutions, and promote European values in the country, which belongs in Europe – historically, geographically, and culturally as well as by its orientation and spirit.
Kostunica said that much more consensus is now needed to resolve the remaining problems, which include relations within the state union, the issue of Kosovo-Metohija, a new Serbian constitution, and cooperation with the ICTY.
The Prime Minister also thanked the previous governments on their contribution to the positive outcome of the feasibility study as well as late Prime Minister Zoran Djindjic, with whom he participated in landmark political events in September and October 2000, which paved the way for Serbia towards Europe.
