Recovery of economy, nation key tasks of new government

Belgrade, 27 April 2014 – Prime Minister-Designate Aleksandar Vucic said today, presenting his key-note address before the Serbian parliament, that the document contains not only policy directions, but for the first time a thorough and serious programme of the government.

Vucic pointed out that the reform of the economy through a set of reform laws, strengthening the private sector and the consolidation of the budget are three major task of the new government of Serbia.

He said that the programme of the new government was presented to many domestic and foreign experts, who estimated that it is the foundation on which Serbia could become the most attractive economy in the region.

This is a programme for the recovery of the economy and the nation, he said and added that it is high time to stop asking and taking from the state of Serbia, but that now is the time to give back to the state what we can.

According to Vucic, people must show resolve in implementing painful but healing reforms, and the new government will be unique in many ways, because it was formed in a very short period of time and because it enjoys strong support from parliament, unprecedented in history.

This, he said, would mean nothing if it is not used to change the lives of citizens and Serbia be made a better place to live.

Vucic said that he was guilded by the interests of Serbia and citizens in composing his cabinet.

Serbia is more important than us, each of us and all political parties, he reiterated.

Vucic said that he would personally represent Serbia in further negotiations with Pristina, and pointed out that the agreement reached in dialogue with Pristina is one of the successes of the previous government.

He also said that in recent decades the public heard many promises, but added that the effect was weak, adding that he thinks that the goals of the government are achievable.

We have set high and ambitious goals and standards, and I am working to achieve those goals, Vucic said adding that instead of a rearview mirror, we have to take binoculars, change our attitude to work and do much more.
