Minister of Culture Ivan Tasovac said on that occasion that by laying the cornerstone the two countries are building a bridge of friendship, and expressed confidence that the Chinese cultural centre will be a point of meeting and talks on new partnerships and will help enrich ties between the two nations.
Culture is a unique constant that empowers individuals and entire communities, it changes them and makes them capable of not only understanding each other but of enjoying the diversity of human expression. At the same time culture is not just a mirror of spiritual values and historical heritage, but it also becomes an important factor in sustainable development, Tasovac said.
Chinese Minister of Culture Luo Shugang said that China and Serbia have a long history and rich culture, and traditional friendship.
The laying of the cornerstone, according to him, is a symbol of successful cooperation between the two countries and proof that they attach great attention to cooperation in the field of culture.
Cooperation occupies a very important place in the new Silk Road, which is also known as “One Belt, One Road”, and goes beyond space, time constraints, connecting the present with the past and is in line with the principles of peace, development, prosperity, and connects China with all other countries of the world, Shugang said.
He stated that the cultural centre will be open to citizens of Serbia and will contribute to the deepening of friendship between the two nations.
Belgrade Mayor Sinisa Mali said that the Serbian capital celebrates friendship today and shows that physical proximity is not the same as closeness.
Nikolic and Jinping also opened the new Confucius Street and the Square of friendship between Serbia and China.
The presidents of Serbia and China previously laid wreaths to the monument to employees of the Chinese embassy killed in the 1999 NATO bombing of Serbia.
