Minister for Family Care and Demography Jelena Žarić Kovačević, met in New York with Deputy Minister and Vice Chairperson of the National Working Committee on Children and Women of the People’s Republic of China Lin Yi.
At the meeting, experiences and opinions on policies towards women and demographic development were exchanged, with Žarić Kovačević emphasising that Serbia remains committed to the full implementation of the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action, and to promoting a society free from violence against women and girls, as well as all forms of violence against children.
The Minister also pointed out that Serbia is launching a new multi-sectoral Strategy for the Prevention and Protection of Children from Violence and an Action Plan within the Strategy for the Prevention of and Combating Gender-Based Violence and Domestic Violence.
During the conversation, China’s proactive demographic measures were also discussed, including the development of a “birth-friendly society”, the integration of women’s development with demographic goals, systemic support for families through subsidies, childcare and reducing education costs.
