Serbia safeguarding sovereignty, building energy security

Belgrade/Washington, 6 March 2026

Director of the Office of Public and Cultural Diplomacy Arno Gujon said today in Washington D.C., at the first summit of the Alliance of Sovereign Nations, that Serbia is developing rapidly and that with the growth of digital infrastructure, data centres and the application of artificial intelligence, the need for energy is also growing.

At the gathering, organised by US Congresswoman Anna Paulina Luna, with the support of Speaker of the US House of Representatives Mike Johnson, Gujon spoke on a panel dedicated to energy independence, together with US Congressmen Ryan Zinke and Byron Donalds.

He stressed that Serbia participates in such forums because it believes that cooperation between sovereign states is the best path to stability and peace.

Peace is Europe’s urgent need today, and the consequences of war are most deeply felt precisely in the energy sector, which has become one of the key geopolitical issues of our time, Gujon pointed out.

According to him, the issue of energy security and independence is one of the key strategic issues for the future of Serbia.

In this context, he added, Serbia is increasingly considering nuclear energy as a clean and stable source of energy, while mini-modular nuclear power plants can represent an important solution for long-term energy stability and support for Serbia’s further technological and economic development.
